88s

All the world, tiny squares
Tiny squares here and there
Homes and pastures filled with Panzers
Trodding bones into dust

88s and 88s for meat alone, for days and days
A caliber, a caliper to wrench the weary war away
So we fall west, west again, wester of the western wall
And brace for winter, a bitter bastard
Welcoming the snow’s fall
Which places upon history a virgin white coat
Covering the missing; their eyes blue with cold
