Sinner

To whom shall I repent my sins
If all our hands’ unclean
Who can offer absolution
When rife – iniquity

For I have lain with unclean maids
In linen and wool sheets
I’ve eaten scaleless sea dwellers
And non-cud-chewing meat

So I am abomination
My guests I do not keep
And every grape I’ve sown I’ve reaped
The poor have naught to eat

Now, shall I bring two turtledoves
And wring their necks to bleed
Sprinkle red upon the alter
In blood, my hands are clean?
