Remains

Ceder; pine; ash and urn
Remains remain though minds turn
Impoverished in guilt
 and demands ignored
From crying - for healing
 the world burned

Blankets of cold
 eyes blue - zeroed
Driven beneath beautiful snow
Revealed in the thaw
Once turned, many minds
The image the same
 history finds
A field littered with
 ashes and urns; ceder; pine

    • Thank you. There are a few images and thoughts that have stuck with me from my War in Lit class, and this poem has a few of those elements. I’m touched that you would read it once, let alone thrice!
