Debris

Smoke in the streets
Cops on the beat
Moans of a family
Trapped in the heap
Of death and debris
Sends chills do the pleas
Another Wednesday
Finds another on knees
With shaking clasped hands
So I understand
The bellows and screams
Ring through the land
As badges command
Us not to offend
The lines of hoses
Cross hatching of bands
Springing to life
The last hope that we have
Of finding a son,
A daughter, or niece
Lost in the rubble
Of exploded debris.
