A July First

Upon the neck, a trickled sweat
The heat anorectic
And ’round said brow a strop-ish sound
July hums electric

Each tit for tat; each lover’s spat
Each slight accentuates
The heated slog on woven straw
A cask exacerbates

Now semi (セミ) crow like North winds blow
Black birds begin to pest
‘Til midnight drains the day’s rage
Save the lovers leaden breasts
